Choosing a green paint for your furniture is about more than just colour. It is about finding a paint that performs beautifully, feels considered and sits comfortably in a healthy home environment. Whether you are drawn to rich botanical greens, soft eucalyptus tones or deep moody shades, mineral paint gives you a gorgeous, durable finish with lower VOC levels than many traditional paints.
At Sweet Pea Interiors, our green mineral paint collection is one of our most loved ranges — colours that bring life, depth and a relaxed coastal or nature-inspired feel to furniture pieces of all shapes and sizes.
What Makes Mineral Paint a Low VOC Choice?
VOC stands for volatile organic compounds — chemicals found in many conventional paints that evaporate into the air as the paint dries. Lower VOC paints release fewer of these compounds, making them a more considered choice for indoor use, particularly in bedrooms, children’s rooms and living spaces.
Our artisan mineral paints are water-based and formulated with lower VOC levels than many traditional solvent-based paints, making them a practical and beautiful choice for furniture painting indoors.
Always ensure good ventilation when painting indoors, regardless of the paint type you choose.
Our Green Mineral Paint Colours
Every green in our range has been chosen specifically for furniture refurbishment. Here are the shades available at Sweet Pea Interiors:
- Eucalypt — a soft, muted green with a distinctly Australian feel. Beautiful on bedside tables, hall tables and coastal furniture pieces.
- Gumleaf — a warm, earthy green inspired by the Australian bush. Pairs beautifully with timber and rattan.
- Jade — a rich, jewel-toned green with real depth. Stunning on sideboards, buffets and statement cabinet pieces.
- Hunter — a deep, classic hunter green. Bold and sophisticated on larger furniture pieces.
- Emerald — a vibrant, luxurious green that makes a real statement. Perfect for a feature piece in a coastal or contemporary interior.
- Vintage Green — a faded, aged green with a relaxed, nostalgic quality. Ideal for distressed or layered paint effects.
- Cotswold Green — a soft, muted green with a classic English countryside feel. Works beautifully in Hamptons and coastal Australian interiors.
- French Green — a sophisticated, grey-toned green with a timeless European quality. Elegant on cabinets, consoles and dressers.
- Highlands — a deep, moody green with a rich, considered feel. Dramatic and beautiful on larger statement pieces.
- Seaglass — a soft, coastal blue-green inspired by sea glass on an Australian beach. Perfect for bedside tables, coastal sideboards and relaxed furniture makeovers.
Why Green Is Such a Beautiful Choice for Furniture
Green is one of the most versatile and enduring colours in interior design. It works across coastal, botanical, farmhouse, Hamptons and contemporary Australian interiors — and it looks stunning on furniture of all kinds.
- Depth and richness — green mineral paint has a beautiful, layered quality that looks handcrafted rather than flat
- Versatile across styles — from soft Eucalypt to deep Highlands, green works in almost any interior
- Pairs beautifully with natural materials — timber, rattan, linen, marble and brass all complement green furniture perfectly
- A statement without being overwhelming — a single painted green piece can anchor an entire room
- Timeless — unlike trend-driven colours, green has real staying power in Australian interiors
Green Paint Furniture Makeover Ideas
Eucalypt or Cotswold Green Sideboard — A soft, muted green gives a sideboard a relaxed, nature-inspired feel. Pair with brass drawer handles and a timber top for a warm coastal look.
Highlands or Hunter Buffet — A rich, moody deep green creates a dramatic statement piece. Finish with marble knobs or rattan drawer pulls for a considered, boutique feel.
Gumleaf or Vintage Green Bedside Table — A warm, earthy green paired with carved timber knobs creates a beautiful, nature-inspired bedside piece.
French Green or Jade Kitchen Cabinet Doors — Mineral paint adheres beautifully to cabinet doors. A sophisticated green with new handles and a quality sealer can completely transform a tired kitchen.
Seaglass Coastal Piece — Our most coastal green, Seaglass is perfect for a relaxed beachside feel on bedside tables, small cabinets and decorative furniture pieces.
Emerald Statement Find — Emerald mineral paint is one of the best colours for turning a secondhand op shop find into a genuine statement piece. Bold, beautiful and completely unique.
How to Apply Green Mineral Paint to Furniture
Step 1 — Clean and Prepare
Remove dust, grease and grime thoroughly. Lightly sand any glossy surfaces and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Allow to dry completely before painting.
Step 2 — Apply Your First Coat
Using a quality brush or foam roller, apply your first coat of green mineral paint in smooth, even strokes. The first coat may look uneven — this is completely normal.
Step 3 — Dry and Apply Second Coat
Allow to dry fully (approximately one to two hours depending on conditions) then apply a second coat for full, rich coverage.
Step 4 — Seal for High-Use Surfaces
For tabletops, cabinet doors or pieces that get daily use, apply a quality sealer from our paint and finishing range for lasting protection.
Step 5 — Add Your Hardware
Once fully cured, finish your piece with handmade handles or knobs. This is the step that pulls the whole look together.
Styling Green Furniture in Australian Interiors
Green furniture works beautifully when styled with natural timber, rattan and wicker, linen and cotton in warm neutrals, brass and gold hardware, marble and stone accents, and coastal whites and sandy neutrals to keep the surrounding palette relaxed and light.
