Furniture Painting Workshops in Newcastle: What to Expect

If you’ve been wanting to try furniture painting but aren’t sure where to start — or if you’ve tried it before and want to improve your technique — a Sweet Pea Interiors workshop is the best way to learn. Here’s everything you need to know about what to expect.

Who Are the Workshops For?

Our workshops are designed for everyone — complete beginners who have never picked up a furniture brush, through to experienced painters who want to learn new techniques or try a specific finish. You don’t need any prior experience. You don’t need to bring anything. You just need to show up ready to have fun and learn.

Our workshops are popular with:

  • DIY home decorators wanting to refresh their furniture
  • Furniture flippers and upcyclers looking to improve their technique
  • People who want a creative, hands-on experience
  • Gift recipients — our workshops make a beautiful and memorable gift
  • Small groups of friends looking for a creative catch-up

What’s Included?

Everything. When you book a Sweet Pea Interiors workshop, all materials are provided:

  • A piece of furniture or surface to work on
  • All paints — our artisan mineral paint range
  • Brushes, sanding pads and all tools
  • Expert guidance throughout the session
  • Tips on colour selection, technique and finishing
  • A finished piece to take home

What Will You Learn?

Depending on the workshop, you’ll learn some or all of the following:

  • How to prepare a surface for painting
  • How to apply mineral paint for a smooth, professional finish
  • Layering and distressing techniques
  • How to use paintable wallpaper for texture effects
  • How to choose and fit new cabinet handles
  • How to seal and protect your finished piece
  • Colour theory and how to choose the right colour for your space

Group Workshops

Our group workshops are a relaxed, social experience — a small group of participants working on their own pieces with expert guidance throughout. They’re a great way to meet other creative people, learn in a supportive environment, and come away with a finished piece you’re genuinely proud of.

Private Workshops (1-on-1)

Our private workshops are tailored entirely to you — your piece, your colour choices, your technique goals. If you have a specific project in mind, or if you’d prefer a more personalised learning experience, a private workshop is the ideal option. We also offer private workshops for small groups of friends.

Where Are the Workshops Held?

Our workshops are held in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, NSW. Exact location details are provided at the time of booking.

How to Book

Workshops book out quickly — especially our weekend sessions. We recommend booking early to secure your preferred date.
